Bruchim Habaim – Welcome to Israel!

5:25 PM arrival at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport. Ascend to Jerusalem and celebrate our arrival at the magnificent Haas Sherover Promenade that overlooks the Old City. “Welcome to Israel” dinner at the hotel.

On your walls City of David…

We’ll begin our exploration of Jerusalem with the latest excavations at Biblical Jerusalem (the City of David) where Jerusalem begins. From there it’s off to Mt. Zion the traditional site of King David’s Tomb, The Last Supper, The Pentecost and the House of Caiphas. Entering the Old City we’ll have lunch on our own and explore the restored Jewish Quarter including the rooftops and the Cardo. Learn about the Temple experience with a visit to the Old City’s fascinating Temple Institute Educational Center.  Dinner and evening on your own in Jerusalem.

Walking with Jesus in  Jerusalem

Start the day with worship and study atop the Mt of Olives and walk down the slopes to the Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of the Agony. Then, participate in a unique Last Supper Study Session and Meal before making our way to the Garden Tomb Golgotha where we remember the Crucifixion and Resurrection. In the early evening we’ll have a festive meal at the hotel marking the start of the Shavuot Festival (Pentecost).  Pentecost is associated with the revelation at Mt. Sinai and marked with all-night Torah study followed by sunrise services. We’ll partake in some Torah study and then join thousands in a pre-dawn walk to the Western Wall (Kotel) for sunrise services.

After prayer services at the Kotel, walk back from the Old City to the hotel for breakfast followed by rest time and lunch. In the afternoon we’ll have a study session and walking tour of some of Jerusalem’s most picturesque and historic neighborhoods. Dinner and evening on your own in Jerusalem.

And the children shall return to their land… 

 

We’ll start the day with a Middle East Update with a political analyst and then step back 2,000 years to the days of the Second Temple at the Davidson Southern Temple Mount Excavations and the Kotel Tunnels. Then head south to the restored Jewish communities of Gush Etzion and the multi media program at the Kfar Etzion Heritage Center. We’ll have a chance to shop at the Etzion Judaica Center which features the work of many top Israeli artisans, especially those living in Judea & Samaria and have a BBQ dinner with the Ehrlich Family in Efrat.

From Out of the Crucible

 

 

Begin the day in solemn memory at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Center including the new historical museum, Avenue of the Righteous of the Nations and the Children’s Memorial. Then, head to Maaleh Adumim for a home hospitality program with Ethiopian Jewish Immigrants to hear the remarkable stories of their long trek home from Africa to Israel. Later, join thousands at the Kotel (Western Wall) for evening prayer services welcoming the Sabbath and then head to our hotel for a traditional Friday night Sabbath meal.

Shabbat Peace in Jerusalem

Enjoy the special atmosphere of Shabbat in Jerusalem by participating in Shabbat prayers at a local Jerusalem synagogue and then join congregants for a home hospitality Shabbat lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll have an optional walk to the Christian Quarter of the Old City and visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher which has been associated with the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus for nearly 1,700 years.  Dinner and evening on your own in Jerusalem.

Choosing between God and Ba’al

After early morning worship, visit Jerusalem’s pioneering social service project Yad LaKashish (Lifeline for the Elderly) including the workshops and the crafts giftshop. Then, heading north, we’ll visit the ancient Roman capital at Caesarea and drive through the Carmel Mountains to the Mukhraka where we remember Elijah’s battle with the Prophets of Baal. Check-in and dinner at our hotel on the shores of the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee).

Walking with Jesus in Galilee

Exploring the Ministry of Jesus in the area of the ancient Jewish fishing villages around the Sea of Galilee we’ll stop at the Mt of Beatitudes remembering the teachings, Tabgha where we remember the miracles and Capernaum the home base of Jesus ministry. We will sail the Sea of Galilee and those who wish to will be Baptized in the Jordan River. In the evening we’ll explore the seaside town of Tiberias and attend the multi media “Galilee Experience.”  Dinner on your own in Tiberias on the shores of the Kinneret.

Freedom Needs Defending

Delve into the complex security and water issues on the Golan Heights, with visits to the Headwaters of the Jordan River at Tel Dan. We’ll have lunch and remember the Transfiguration at the foot of Mt. Hermon, before visiting and standing in solidarity with IDF soldiers guarding Israel’s northern border. Then, explore Israel’s border with Syria at Mt. Bental.

May 30

 

Next year in Jerusalem!

Participate in the redemption of the land by planting a tree with your own hands.  Then, head south to Tel Aviv and examine the political decisions and struggles leading up to the birth of the State of Israel with a visit to Israel’s Independence Hall where the State of Israel was declared in 1948. Later, we’ll make our way to the Neot Kedumim Biblical Nature Reserve where we will do hands on learning about the connection between our Biblical heritage and the land, have our final group summary session and our farewell dinner.  Transfer to Ben Gurion International Airport for Delta flight # 153 departing to Atlanta at 11:40 PM.
